Lady Wolverine streak stopped at six
WESTERVILLE, OH , December 27 , 2000--The Grove City Lady Wolverines had their six-game winning streak snapped and fell to 8-2 Wednesday, losing to Ohio Wesleyan, 60-53, in the first round of the Otterbein "O" Club Classic in Westerville, OH.
Grove City will play in Thursday's consolation game at 1:00 p.m. against Dubuque (IA), who lost to Otterbein in the other semifinal, 73-59.
Ohio Wesleyan advanced to the championship and improved to 6-2 despite shooting just 30.5% (18-59) from the floor, 22.2% (6-27) in the first half. The Battling Bishops secured the win at the free-throw line, hitting 23 of 29 attempts.
Grove City, who led 27-26 at halftime, shot 42.6% (23-54) from the floor, but connected on just 4 of 12 from the stripe. Junior Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) was the only Lady Wolverine in double figures with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Junior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) and sophomore Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) led the way on the glass with nine and seven rebounds, respectively. Junior T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) contributed a game-high seven assists and Dixon added six dishes.
Grove City and Dubuque will meet for the first time tomorrow. The Lady Spartans fell to 1-5 overall, committing 33 turnovers against Otterbein, who moved to 4-6.
