Kegg drills five threes, lifts GCC past Thiel, 65-48

GROVE CITY, PA , January 20 , 2001--Junior guard Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) fired in a game-high 19 points, hitting 5 of 7 from three-point range, as Grove City evened its conference record at 1-1 and improved to 11-4 overall with a 65-48 victory over visiting Thiel, who fell to 0-1 in the league, 5-10 overall.

Kegg did most of her damage in the first half, connecting on 4 of 4 threes and scoring 13 of her 16 first-half points in the final eight minutes, giving the Lady Wolverines a 26-24 lead at intermission.  Kegg, who made her first start of the season, finished the game 6-for-9 from the floor, 2-for-2 from the line and added four rebounds.  Her five treys were one shy of the school record.   Kegg started in place of junior guard T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard), who sat out with a knee injury.

Junior point guard Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) canned a trio of three-pointers and finished with 11 points, three assists and a pair of steals.  Senior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) contributed nine points and a game-high 10 boards for the Lady Wolverines, adding four assists and three steals.  Sophomore guard Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) also tossed in nine markers, while sophomore Christy Faller (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) chipped in with seven, including a three-pointer.

Grove City's nine threes in the game marked a season high.

Amanda Swanson paced the Lady Cats with 14 points.
