GCC gets back on track in 32-point victory
GROVE CITY, PA, January 31, 2001--The Grove City Lady Wolverines reversed a two-game slide and improved to 12-6 overall and 2-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, cruising past visiting Waynesburg, 66-34, Wednesday night. The Lady Yellow Jackets fell to 4-13 overall, 0-4 in the PAC.
After scoring a school-record low 31 points on 26% shooting last Saturday at Westminster, the Lady Wolverines recovered with 31 points in the first half and 53% shooting in the game. Meanwhile, Waynesburg was held to 27% shooting, including a 13.6% clip after intermission.
Juniors Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) and T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) paced Grove City in the scoring column with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) and senior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) chipped in with eight points each. Dixon added a game-high six rebounds, Thompson dished out four assists and Jenkins had four steals.
Grove City will play at two-time defending champion Bethany on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Wolverines moved within a game of the first-place Bison (3-1), who had their streak of 20 consecutive wins against PAC opponents stopped at Thiel in an 80-66 loss Wednesday.
