Lady Wolverines shut down Waynesburg, 55-35
WAYNESBURG, PA, February 14, 2001--The Grove City Lady Wolverines used a balanced scoring attack and their signature stingy defense to improve to 15-7 overall and 5-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 55-35 victory at Waynesburg Wednesday night. The Lady Yellow Jackets fell to 4-18 overall and 0-7 in the PAC.
Junior Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) tossed in a team-high 11 points, while senior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) and sophomore Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) added 10 points apiece. Sophomore Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) chipped in with eight points. Kegg and Dixon each knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
Grove City led by just three, 26-23, in the early moments of the second half before outscoring Waynesburg, 29-12 the rest of the way.
The Lady Wolverines have held four of their last five opponents to 50 points or less, including two in the thirties.
Grove City hosts its regular-season finale Saturday against Westminster at 2:00 p.m.
The Lady Wolverines will most likely play defending champion Bethany in the semi-final round of the PAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament next Thursday, Feb. 22, at Washington & Jefferson's Henry Memorial Center. The championship game will tip-off on Friday, Feb. 23, at W&J.
