Lady Wolverine season ends in ECAC first round

CENTER VALLEY, PA, February 28, 2001--Freshman Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, TX/Copperas Cove) scored a team-high 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting, but sixth-seeded Grove City couldn't overcome 29 turnovers in a 72-49 loss to third-seeded and host DeSales University (formerly Allentown College) in the opening round of the ECAC Southern Championship Tournament.

The Lady Wolverines, who lost to Carnegie Mellon in the ECAC title game last season, finished the year 15-10 overall.

Junior Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) tallied nine points for Grove City, who was held to 32.7% shooting from the floor (16-for-49).   Sophomore Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) tossed in six points, while junior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) and sophomore Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) chipped in with five points each.  Jenkins added a team-high five rebounds and Murphy collected four steals.

The Lady Wolverines trailed by just five at halftime, 27-22, despite hitting only 6 of 21 field goals (28.6%) before the break.

Rachel Hartung, Jeanne Herbert and Caryn Flory paced the Lady Centaurs with 12 points apiece.

Grove City has advanced to the ECAC playoffs in four of the past five seasons.  The Lady Wolverines captured the ECAC crown in their first trip in 1997 before falling in the first round in 1998.
