Lady Wolverines get hot in Florida finale

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL, January 2, 2002--Senior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) fired in a team-high 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting as the Grove City Lady Wolverines stopped a four-game slide with a 78-62 victory over host Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Wolverines finished 1-1 on their two-game trip to the Sunshine State and moved to 3-6 overall.  Flagler, a member of the NAIA's Florida Sun Conference, dropped to 1-12.

Murphy led four Grove City players in double figures and was one of three Lady Wolverines to knock down three 3-pointers.  Senior Erica Youngman (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) and freshman Abby Moose (Mercer, PA/Mercer) each drilled three treys and finished with 11 points apiece.  Senior Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) also chipped in 11 points, hitting 5 of 5 from the free-throw line.

Murphy, Youngman and senior T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) each had four assists.  Youngman added a team-best seven rebounds, while junior Christy Faller (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) contributed six boards.

The Lady Wolverines led 36-20 at halftime, holding the Lady Saints to 22.6 percent shooting (7-31) before intermission.  Grove City shot 55.1 percent for the game (27-49), following its 32.6 percent showing (15-46) in last Saturday's 76-52 loss at St. Leo University.

Grove City will compete at the Elizabethtown Tournament this weekend.
