Allegheny stops GCC win streak at three

GROVE CITY, PA, January 9, 2002--Grove City committed a season-low nine turnovers, but couldn't overcome 28 percent shooting from the floor (19-69) in a 58-53 loss to visiting Allegheny Wednesday night.

Grove City (5-7) led by as many as six points in the first half before Allegheny (6-6) rallied to tie the score at halftime, 28-28.  The Lady Wolverines took a 42-41 edge with 10:15 left in the game, but the Lady Gators responded with a 10-2 run and never trailed again.

Allegheny's Jessica Kankoski led all scorers in the game with 19 points.  Alyssa Hinkle and Brooke Bordeau posted 15 and 13 rebounds respectively for the Gators, who shot just 35 percent in the game (24-68).

Senior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) paced Grove City with 12 points.  Sophomore Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, TX/Copperas Cove) had nine boards.

The Lady Wolverines had won three straight games and were looking to reach the .500 mark for the first time since Dec. 1.
