GCC cruises to 22-point win in PAC opener
GROVE CITY, PA, January 16, 2002--A dozen Lady Wolverines dented the scoring column Wednesday night as Grove City (7-7, 1-0 PAC) won its Presidents' Athletic Conference opener, 65-43, over visiting Waynesburg (6-5, 0-1 PAC). The win marked the Lady Wolverines' fifth in six games and bumped them back to .500 for the first time since Dec. 1.
Freshman Abby Moose (Mercer, PA/Mercer) scored a team-high 12 points for Grove City, who led 35-22 at halftime and upped its lead to as many as 26 points, 49-23, in the second half. Senior Erica Youngman (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) tallied nine points on 4-for-5 shooting and added four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Senior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) tossed in eight points to go with five boards and a pair of steals. Sophomore Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, TX/Copperas Cove) grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and junior Christy Faller (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) contributed six caroms to help the Lady Wolverines post a 50-32 edge on the glass. Senior T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) dished out six assists.
Candace Newman scored a game-high 14 points for Waynesburg, in search of its first PAC win since the 1998-99 season.
