Lady Wolverines suffer first PAC loss

GREENVILLE, PA, February 6, 2002--The Grove City College women's basketball team was dealt its first Presidents' Athletic Conference defeat Wednesday night as host Thiel College used a strong second half to post a 61-50 win at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasium in Greenville.

The Lady Wolverines couldn't overcome 30 percent shooting from the floor (17-for-56), including a 3-for-24 clip from three-point range.

Grove City (11-9, 5-1 PAC) rallied from an early 9-2 deficit with a 14-0 run, but Thiel (11-10, 2-3 PAC) countered with an 8-0 run of its own and after several lead changes the game was tied at halftime, 23-23. The Lady Cats took control of the second half, opening up a 39-31 lead before the Lady Wolverines clawed back to tie it at 39-all with 10:35 remaining.  Thiel countered with a pair of field goals and led the rest of the way, holding Grove City to just one field goal in a 10-minute stretch.

Amanda Swanson fired in a game-high 20 points for the Lady Cats, who shot 52 percent from the field in the second half (17-for-33).

Forward Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) and guard Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to pace the Lady Wolverines.  Jenkins added eight rebounds and four steals.  Forward Misty Wadowsky (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) contributed nine points, hitting 2 of 2 from the field and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line.
