Lady Wolverines win big over Behrend
GROVE CITY, PA, February 11, 2002--The Grove City Lady Wolverines used their second-best shooting performance of the season to snap a two-game skid with a 72-49 win over visiting Penn State Behrend on Monday night at the College Arena.
Grove City improved to 12-10 overall with the non-league victory, while Penn State Behrend had its four-game winning streak halted and fell to 13-11 overall.
The Lady Wolverines took a 4-2 lead with 19 minutes left in the first half and never trailed again. They led 34-18 at halftime and held at least a 15-point edge the rest of the way.
Grove City shot 47.6 percent from the field (30-for-63), its best effort since hitting on 48.2 percent of its shots in the season opener against Richard Stockton. Penn State Behrend bucketed just six field goals in the first half and was held to 27.1 percent shooting (16-for-59) for the game.
Thirteen Lady Wolverines found the scoring column led by freshman Abby Moose (Mercer, PA/Mercer), who scored 11 points, including three three-pointers. Junior Jessica Jenkins (Conneautville, PA/Cambridge Springs) scored 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting and added seven rebounds. Senior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) tossed in eight points, going 4-for-4 from the floor, while sophomore Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, TX/Copperas Cove) also tallied eight points. Senior Erica Youngman (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) contributed five assists and three steals.
Kate Costanzo led the Lady Lions with 16 points. Costanzo eclipsed 1,000 career points with a 15-foot jumper in the final minute.
