Lady Wolverines fall in overtime, 80-77

GROVE CITY, Pa.  -- Sophomore Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) tossed in a career-high 28 points but the Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 1-7 with an 80-77 overtime loss to visiting Wooster (6-2) at the Grove City College Arena Monday night.

O'Keefe, who made her first collegiate start, also grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked five shots.

The Lady Wolverines used an 11-2 run late in the second half to grab a 67-62 lead with 1:45 remaining. Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer), who finished with 13 points, started the run with a three-pointer. Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) gave Grove City the lead with two free throws while another Moose three capped the run.

Grove City led 69-65 when Wooster's Lindsay Schaaff split a pair of free throws. After the missed second shot, Schaaff recovered the loose ball and sank a three which tied the game at 69 with a half-minute remaining. Neither team scored in the final moments, forcing overtime.

In overtime, Wooster led wire-to-wire as another Schaaff three gave Wooster a 74-69 lead. Lady Wolverine freshman Kellie Kepple (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) cut the lead back to three with her second three of the night. However, her potential game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left glanced off the rim, giving Wooster its second consecutive victory.

LeGare led Grove City with 14 rebounds while Christy Faller (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) had five assists. Cara Denniston (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and Moose both had four assists.

Jen Flavin led Wooster with 20 points while Schaaff added 18.
