Lady Wolverines pick up second straight victory

GROVE CITY, Pa.  --  Sophomore guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) tied a career high with 23 points as the Grove City College women's basketball team knocked off visiting Juniata (4-7) 64-53 at the Grove City College Arena Saturday afternoon.

The win is Grove City's second straight following a three-game losing streak.

In addition to her 23 points, Moose also set new career highs with five three-point goals and 10 rebounds. Classmates Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) and Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wisc./Edgewood) added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Grove City. 

Senior guard Cara Denniston (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) added eight points, seven rebounds and six assists.

The Lady Wolverines (3-9) took command with a 21-4 run in the second half. Moose ignited the run with a pair of threes while Kempema also connected on a three-point basket. O'Keefe capped the run with an inside basket, giving Grove City a 51-34 lead with 11 minutes remaining. 

Juniata did cut the lead back to 58-53 with 1:45 left but Grove City put the game away at the foul line as Denniston went 4-for-4 and O'Keefe swished a pair at the line. 

Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) pulled in 10 rebounds to help Grove City gain a 48-29 advantage on the glass. The Lady Wolverines also shot 7-for-12 (58 percent) from behind the three-point line.

Casey Shoup led Juniata with 13 points.

Grove City begins Presidents' Athletic Conference action next Saturday at Bethany, W. Va.
