Lady Wolverines shock Bethany in conference opener

BETHANY, W. Va.  --  After trailing by as many as six on several different occasions, the visiting Grove City Lady Wolverines used a second-half charge to knock off four-time defending Presidents' Athletic Conference champion Bethany Saturday afternoon, 67-57, at Hummel Field House, ending the Bison's seven-game win streak.

Sophomore guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) scored all 16 of her points in the second half while senior Christy Faller (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) added a dozen points. Sophomore guard Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wisc./Edgewood) tossed in 10 points and doled out four assists.

An 11-0 run in the second half gave Grove City an eight-point lead. With Grove City (4-9, 1-0 PAC) trailing 38-35, a Faller layup preceded two Moose free throws. Moose then gave the Lady Wolverines a 42-38 lead with one of her four second-half three-pointers. Cara Denniston (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) added a jumper before Moose capped the run with a steal and subsequent basket.

During the run, Grove City held Bethany (13-3, 0-1 PAC) without a field goal for over eight minutes. Bethany did forge a 52-52 tie at the 5:40 mark but Moose drilled a pair of threes and Denniston added a three-point play that put Grove City back in command. Denniston finished with nine points.

Denniston, Kempema and Moose each played all 20 minutes in the second half.

Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) led Grove City with eight rebounds. Kelley Richardson led Bethany with 18 points and 13 rebounds, both game-highs.
