Grove City knocks off Thiel, now 6-2 in PAC

GROVE CITY, Pa.  --  The Grove City College women's basketball team (9-12, 6-2 PAC) held visiting Thiel to just 29.7 percent (19 of 64) shooting from the floor as the Lady Wolverines moved closer to clinching a bye in the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament with a 56-51 win at the Grove City College Arena Saturday.

A 12-4 run early in the second half put Grove City in control. Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer), who led all scorers with 16 points, swished a three-pointer while Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) added a pair of baskets to key the run. Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) kept the run going with a mid-range jumper while Christy Faller (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) capped it with consecutive scores.

The Lady Wolverine lead grew to 50-36 later in the half on a basket from Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry), who finished with 14 points.

Grove City raced out to a 10-1 lead in the first half on three-pointers from Moose and Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wisc./Edgewood) but Thiel eventually took a short-lived 20-19 lead on a three-pointer from Kerry Gutherie.

An O'Keefe jump shot gave the lead back to Grove City for good. O'Keefe also finished with four blocks while Faller had a team-high eight rebounds.

Amanda Swanson led Thiel with 13 points.
