Grove City runs win streak to four

ERIE, Pa.  -- Led by a 12-point, 6-rebound, 3-assist outing from junior Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) and 11 points from senior Christy Faller (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana), the Grove City College women's basketball team won for the ninth time in 12 games, claiming a 64-56 win over host Penn State Behrend at the Junker Center Monday night.

The teams traded the lead through the early portion of the second half before Grove City took the lead for good. Kellie Kepple (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) drilled a three-pointer and then followed with a jumper to give Grove City (10-12) a 42-38 lead midway through the second half.

Penn State Behrend (13-10) cut the lead to three points on three different occasions but the Lady Wolverines were able to seal the win with a 9-2 run down the stretch. Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) started the run with her second three of the night while Cara Denniston (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) added two foul shots. Back-to-back scores from Faller extended the lead to 61-51, giving Grove City its fourth consecutive win.

Behrend jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start the game but Grove City eventually claimed its first lead of the game at 17-15 when Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) sank two free throws. However, the Lions held a 25-23 lead at the half.

The Lady Wolverines out-rebounded Behrend 36-32 and forced 18 turnovers. Carly Cochran led Behrend with 15 points. Denniston played in her 102nd consecutive game for Grove City, bringing her to within two games of the Grove City record, set by Stephanie Murphy from 1998-2002.
