Top-ranked Presidents rally past GCC, 59-53

WASHINGTON, Pa.  --  Washington and Jefferson (20-1, 10-0 PAC), the top-ranked team in the NCAA Great Lakes Region, erased Grove City's double-digit first-half lead Saturday afternoon and rallied for a 59-53 victory over the Lady Wolverines at the Henry Memorial Center in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference finale. 

Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) led Grove City with 16 points while Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.

Consecutive jump shots from LeGare and Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) gave Grove City a 20-10 lead with 8:28 to go in the first half and maintained a 29-22 halftime lead.

However, the Presidents opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game. Moose gave the lead back to Grove City by scoring 10 straight points to put GCC up 41-36. Washington and Jefferson, which will host next weekend's PAC semifinals and championship, grabbed the lead for good on a three-point play from Rachel Armitage and a three-pointer from Leigh Sulkowski.

Armitage led W&J with 13 points while Sulkowski added 12. Lauren Hull posted an 11-point, 14-rebound double-double.

Christy Faller (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) dished out five assists for Grove City while Moose had five steals. Grove City will play an undetermined opponent next Friday night at 6 p.m. in the conference tournament semifinals.
