Grove City wins Allegheny Tip-Off Tournament

MEADVILLE, Pa.  --  Led by 16 points from tournament MVP Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry), the Grove City College women's basketball team rolled to a 70-55 victory over Allegheny in the championship game of the Allegheny College National City Tip-Off Tournament Saturday at the David V. Wise Center.

Four Grove City players scored in double figures. In addition to O'Keefe's output, junior guards Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wisc./Edgewood) and Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) each fired in 15 points while junior guard Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) added a career-high 11 points.

Grove City (2-0) used a 22-4 run in the second half to pull away from the Gators. O'Keefe highlighted the spurt by scoring on four consecutive possessions while Moose added two jumpers and a three-pointer.

The Lady Wolverines trailed 32-28 late in the first half but Romance scored from close range and following an Allegheny turnover, Moose swished a three to give Grove City a 33-32 halftime lead. Moose went 3-for-4 behind the three-point line while Kempema, an All-Tournament pick, hit two of her three attempts from three-point territory.

As a team, Grove City made six of nine three-point attempts. Allegheny shot just 21-for-69 (30 percent) from the floor in the game. Senior Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for Grove City.
