Late rally pushes Grove City past La Roche

PITTSBURGH -- An 8-0 run in the final minute helped the Grove City College women's basketball team rally past host La Roche, 49-46, Saturday in non-conference basketball action at the Kerr Sports Center.

Grove City (5-3) trailed 46-41 with less than a minute left but junior guard Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wisc./Edgewood) fired in a three-pointer and after a La Roche turnover, junior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) drained a pull-up jumper in transition to tie the game at 46-46. Moose was fouled on the play and her subsequent free throw put Grove City on top.

Moose, who led all scorers with 16 points, then hit both ends of a bonus situation at the line to cap the late spurt.

Grove City stumbled out of the gate, shooting just 9-for-28 (32 percent) in the first half. However, the Wolverines closed the first half with a 6-0 spurt to take a 21-19 lead into the intermission.

Junior center Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added 10 points while senior forward Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior forward Misty Wadowsky (Portersville, Pa./Slippery Rock) added eight points and eight boards, helping Grove City hold a 42-35 rebound edge.

Grove City did commit 27 turnovers that led to 25 La Roche points. Beverly Kitchens led La Roche (0-8) with 15 points.
