Grove City slips past Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 6-4 with a 59-56 victory at Juniata Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Junior center Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) led Grove City with 17 points while junior guard Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wisc./Edgewood) added 10 points. Senior forward Misty Wadowsky (Portersville, Pa./Slippery Rock) chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds. Ten of Wadowsky's rebounds came at the offensive end.

Wadowsky's putback with 46 seconds left put Grove City on top 57-56 after the Eagles (3-9) had rallied from a 51-43 deficit to take the lead. Kempema sank two free throws with 13 seconds left to put Grove City up three and Juniata's last-second three-point attempt failed. 

Grove City dominated the glass, out-rebounding Juniata 44-28. Twenty-four of the rebounds came at the offensive end. Grove City also had 16 steals as a team. Junior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) had five thefts while junior guard Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) had four steals. 

The Wolverines led 26-23 at halftime and led by as many as eight, 51-43, in the second half. The game featured nine lead changes. 

Grove City hosts Pitt-Bradford Tuesday night in its final non-conference game before Presidents' Athletic Conference play begins next Saturday, January 17, against visiting Bethany.
