Four score in double figures as Grove City rolls past W&J
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Four Grove City College players scored in double figures as the Lady Wolverines stormed to a 77-58 victory over defending Presidents' Athletic Conference champion Washington and Jefferson in PAC women's basketball action Saturday at the Henry Memorial Center.
Senior forward Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) fired in a game-high 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting while junior guard Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Edgewood) added 15 points and six rebounds.
Junior Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) added 13 points, including 9-for-9 accuracy at the foul line. Senior forward Misty Wadowsky (Portersville, Pa./Slippery Rock) added 10 points for Grove City, which won its third straight.
Grove City (10-7, 3-2 PAC) also limited 2003 PAC MVP and All-American Leigh Sulkowski to just eight points on 3-of-11 shooting. As a team, the Grove City defense forced Washington and Jefferson (11-5, 3-2 PAC) into 18 turnovers.
The Wolverines broke the game open in the first half with a 9-0 run that Romance capped with a three-point play. Grove City led 37-26 at the half and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
Junior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) chipped in seven steals and six assists while junior center Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) blocked three shots. Romance also had a game-high eight rebounds and four assists. Grove City out-rebounded the Presidents, 40-30, and made 19 of 22 foul shots.
Grove City will host La Roche Monday night at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
