Grove City evens conference record
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Three players scored in double figures Saturday, helping the visiting Grove City College women's basketball team to a 66-53 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.
Junior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) fired in 14 points while sophomore guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) came off the bench to toss in 13 points. Junior center Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added 10 points and eight rebounds for Grove City, which stopped a two-game losing streak with the victory.
Grove City (12-9, 4-4 PAC) converted 23 Thiel turnovers into 21 points. Seventeen of the turnovers came in the first half as the Wolverines raced to a 35-22 halftime lead. Grove City also spent the final 11 minutes of the first half in the bonus and knocked down 12 of 17 first-half free throws.
Junior guard Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) dished out four assists and had four steals while Moose also had four steals. As a team, Grove City held a 39-35 edge on the glass.
Fontella Jones led Thiel (6-17, 1-7 PAC) with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Kerry Gutherie had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Grove City returns to action Wednesday night at PAC rival Waynesburg. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
