Grove City advances to PAC tourney semifinals
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team advanced to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals with a 61-43 home victory over No. 5 seed Waynesburg Tuesday night at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City (14-10), the No. 4 seed, will face top-seeded Bethany Friday night at 8 p.m. in the semifinals at Bethany. Waynesburg concludes its season with a 9-14 overall record.
Junior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) fired in a game-high 18 points, including four three-point goals. Junior guard Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) added 11 points while center Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
Grove City led 34-21 at the half and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half. The Wolverines limited Waynesburg to just 25 percent (16 of 64) shooting from the floor in the game. Grove City also out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets 54-40.
An 8-0 run in the first half helped Grove City break a 14-all tie midway through the period. Senior Leigh LeGare (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) started the run with a mid-range jump shot while Moose followed with back-to-back three-point goals.
Moose also had four assists, as did senior forward Misty Wadowsky (Portersville, Pa./Slippery Rock). Wadowsky grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and also deposited eight points.
Candice Eyerman led Waynesburg with 11 points while Michelle Collins added 10 points.
