Grove City knocks off unbeaten CMU

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Senior center Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) tossed in 14 points and added five rebounds, helping the Grove City College women's basketball team upend Carnegie Mellon (2-1), 66-51, Tuesday night at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City led by as many as 17 in the second half before the Lady Tartans pulled to within eight, 57-49, with 5:09 remaining. However, the Wolverines (2-1) were able to put the victory away with a 9-2 run. Senior guard Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) scored a lay-up in transition and also knocked down a pair of free throws to key the run while freshman forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) started the spurt with two free throws. McCoy finished with eight points and eight rebounds.

Moose chipped in 10 points for Grove City, which led 38-25 at the half. A steal and lay-up at the first-half buzzer by freshman forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) capped the first half for Grove City.

The Wolverines out-rebounded Carnegie Mellon, 45-32, and forced 23 turnovers. O'Keefe and McCoy each blocked three shots while Moose had four assists.

Grove City will visit Baldwin-Wallace next Wednesday, Dec. 1.
