Grove City falls at Mount Union  

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Three Grove City players scored in double figures but host Mount Union (3-8) erased the Wolverines’ 15-point first-half lead and secured a 68-62 win over Grove City (5-4) Thursday night in non-conference women’s basketball action at Timken Physical Education Center.

Grove City led 32-17 late in the first half before the Purple Raiders closed the half on an 8-0 run. The lead changed hands five times in the second half before Mount Union pulled ahead for good with four minutes left. The Wolverines did not score from the floor over the final 7:58 of the game.

Senior center Sandy O’Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) led the Wolverines with 14 points while junior guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) added 13 points. Freshman forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) posted a 10-point, 9-rebound, 3-block outing.

Senior point guard Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) dished out seven assists and added three steals. Grove City out-rebounded the Purple Raiders 41-35. However, Mount Union converted Grove City’s 31 turnovers into 35 points.

Kyla Hogan led Mount Union with 23 points. The Purple Raiders shot just 31 percent (20 of 65) from the floor.

Grove City hosts Denison Tuesday night, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.
