Moose reaches 1,000 as Grove City wins on road  

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Senior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) became the eighth Grove City College women’s basketball player to score 1,000 points in her career Wednesday night as her 13-point effort helped Grove City secure a 61-51 win at Waynesburg in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action in the Rudy Marisa Field House.

Moose scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half and now has exactly 1,000 career points. Freshman Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) tossed in a game-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting. It is Grove City’s 19th straight win over the Yellow Jackets (8-6, 0-2 PAC)

Grove City (8-7, 1-1 PAC) closed the first half with a 9-2 run, which started with a jumper from senior guard Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Edgewood). Senior center Sandy O’Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added a jumper during the run while McCoy deposited a layup and two free throws.

The Wolverines broke the game open in the second half with a 7-0 run that featured five straight points from Moose. Grove City eventually extended its lead to 20, 59-39, in the second half before Waynesburg posted a late run in the final minute.

Kempema led Grove City with 10 rebounds while freshman forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added nine boards. Grove City held a 45-37 edge on the glass. Moose added four steals.

On Saturday, Moose helped the United States Deaflympic Women’s Basketball Team win the gold medal at the 2005 Deaflympics in Melbourne, Australia.

Rachel Dillon led Waynesburg with 16 points. Grove City will host Washington and Jefferson Saturday at 1 p.m.
