Grove City falls to Presidents in PAC clash  

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Visiting Washington and Jefferson pulled out a 70-64 win over Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball action Monday night at the Grove City College Arena.

The Presidents (14-3, 3-0 PAC) broke a 64-64 tie in the final minute by scoring the game's final six points. President guard Leigh Sulkowski put the Presidents ahead to stay with a three-point play, then sealed the win by draining two free throws with five seconds left.

Grove City (8-8, 1-2 PAC) held Washington and Jefferson scoreless for over seven minutes in the second half and turned a 48-40 deficit into a 51-48 lead during that span. An inside basket from senior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) capped the 11-0 run. Moose led Grove City with 15 points and now has 1,015 career points, eighth in Grove City history.

The Wolverines trailed by as many as seven in the first half but eventually took the lead, 23-22, on a putback by freshman forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local). McCoy posted a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double for Grove City.

Washington and Jefferson closed the first half with a 5-0 spurt to take a 35-33 lead at the intermission. Sulkowski, who led all scorers with 24 points, put the Presidents up with a three-pointer just before the buzzer.

Moose added five steals for Grove City, which out-rebounded the Presidents, 37-32. Lauren Slampak added 20 for Washington and Jefferson. The Wolverines host Thiel Wednesday night in PAC action at 5:30.
