Grove City topples Titans for 4th straight win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Senior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) fired in a career-high 27 points Saturday afternoon, helping lead the Grove City College women's basketball team to a 70-64 win over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Westminster at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

The win is Grove City's fourth straight. Grove City (12-8, 4-2 PAC) is the first team to break the 70-point barrier against Westminster (13-6, 4-2 PAC) this season. It is also the Wolverines' third straight road victory.

Senior guard Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) added 15 points while freshman forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) had 11 points and six boards. Moose led Grove City on the glass with eight rebounds while also recording five steals.

Grove City trailed by as many as 11, 37-26, in the first half before closing the first half with a 7-0 run. A Moose jumper early in the second half gave Grove City a 45-43 lead. The Wolverines maintained the lead for the final 16 minutes, yet never held a lead larger than seven points.

Grove City held the Lady Titans to just 28 percent (10 of 38) shooting in the second half. Conversely, Grove City drained 13 of 24 (54 percent) of its second-half shots. The Wolverines also forced 21 turnovers and held Westminster's leading scorer Erica Tallo (11.9 points per game) to just two points.

Desiree Sterling led Westminster with 17 points. Alyson Gasper and Mary Jane Eaton each scored 10.

Moose, who did not play in Grove City's 72-49 home loss to the Lady Titans Jan. 15, moved into seventh place on Grove City's all-time scoring list with 1,088. Grove City will host Waynesburg Wednesday night at 5:30 in PAC action.
