Eight straight for Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team extended its win streak to eight Saturday afternoon with a 76-61 home win over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Bethany at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City closes the regular season 16-8 overall and 8-2 in the PAC. It is Grove City's best regular-season record since the Wolverines went 16-8 in 1997-98.

Senior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) posted her sixth straight game with at least 20 points as she fired in a career-high 28 points. Moose went 11 of 18 from the floor, including four three-pointers. She added six rebounds and four steals. Moose moved into sixth place on Grove City's all-time scoring list with 1,180 points.

Meanwhile, freshman forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) added 17 points and senior guard Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Edgewood) posted 13 points and four assists.

Grove City raced out to a 27-10 lead in the first half and led 34-25 at the intermission. Bethany (9-15, 4-6 PAC) pulled to within 48-43 with 11 minutes to go but a three from Grove City sophomore Lee Anne Lukcic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) sparked a 9-0 run over the next three minutes. McCoy added a pair of baskets to help fuel the run.

Grove City forced 25 Bison turnovers and limited Bethany to just 32 percent (18 of 56) shooting from the floor. Jenny Place led Bethany with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Grove City will be the No. 2 seed in next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The Wolverines will play a semifinal game Friday night, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. at Washington and Jefferson College's Henry Memorial Center. The Presidents are the top seed and will play in the other semifinal at 8 p.m.

Kempema, Moose, Sandy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) and Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern) were honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day festivities.
