Westminster eliminates Grove City
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Westminster secured a 63-54 win over Grove City Friday night in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament at Washington and Jefferson College’s Henry Memorial Center.
Westminster (19-7) will play Washington and Jefferson in Saturday’s title game at 2 p.m. Grove City (16-9) will await a possible ECAC Southern Tournament berth on Monday.
Grove City jumped out to a 19-7 lead but Westminster eventually pulled to within 33-31. The Lady Titans eventually pulled ahead in the second half and led as many as eight in the second half. Grove City closed to within 55-51 in the final minute but Westminster sealed the win by making eight straight free throws.
For the game Westminster shot 29 of 41 at the foul line. The Lady Titans were 18 of 26 at the line in the second half whereas Grove City went 2-for-2 in at the line in the second half. The Wolverines were whistled for 30 fouls in the loss.
Senior guard Abby Moose (New Wilmington, Pa./Mercer) led Grove City with 12 points while senior guard Jocelyn Kempema (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Edgewood) added 11.
Erica Tallo led Westminster with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
