Grove City tops Alvernia

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 1-1 Saturday afternoon with a 69-63 win over Alvernia in the consolation game of the Messiah Invitational.

Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) poured in 24 points on 12 of 15 shooting for the Wolverines while junior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) fired in 17 points and had four assists. Bogusz earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Senior guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) added 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Freshman guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) had four assists while sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) had four steals.

Sophomore forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) grabbed 12 rebounds while McCoy had 11 boards.

Grove City will host Mount Union Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
