Mount Union defeats Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 1-2 Tuesday night with a 69-48 loss to visiting Mount Union in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Mount Union (2-1) jumped out to a 12-0 lead early in the first half and led wire-to-wire. The Purple Raiders led 34-19 at the break.

Grove City did manage to pull to within 25-17 in the first half but could get no closer. Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) led Grove City with 14 points while senior guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) added a dozen points. Sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) chipped in 10 points.

Five Mount Union players scored in double figures, led by Kyla Hogan's 16 points. Brooke Ghilani scored 15 off the bench while Alicia Williams added a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double. Lauren Friedrich fired in 11 while Ashley Ross contributed 10 points.

The Purple Raiders out-rebounded Grove City, 42-31, including 20 offensive rebounds. Grove City committed 25 turnovers.

The Wolverines will visit Denison Nov. 30 in non-conference action at 6 p.m.
