Grove City tops Case Western

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sophomores Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) and Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) each scored 19 points Friday night, helping Grove City earn a 64-60 win over visiting Case Western Reserve in non-conference women's basketball action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City improves to 2-3 with the victory while CWRU drops to 3-2.

Grove City never trailed in the game and led by as many as nine, 32-23, in the first half. Case Western tied the game twice in the second half but could not pull ahead. Grove City led by just one, 56-55, with 3:30 left but a three-pointer by freshman Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) and an Overdorff layup extended the lead back to six.

Overdorff then sealed the win with a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left. Her 19-point outing is a career high.

Defensively, the Wolverines limited Case Western to just 29 percent shooting (20 of 70) from the floor. Sophomore forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) blocked four shots. CWRU did own a 46-42 edge on the glass.

Dana Dempsey led Case Western with 17 points while Ashley Horton had a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Grove City will host Manchester (Ind.) Saturday at 2 p.m.
