Comeback falls short

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 2-4 Saturday afternoon with a 64-62 home loss to Manchester (Ind.) in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City trailed 38-22 at the half before storming back. The Wolverines eventually pulled to within three, 61-58, with 3:29 remaining in the game. However, Grove City could not complete the comeback.

Junior Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) fired in a game-high 17 points, tying her career high. She scored 14 points in the second half. Bogusz also went 5-for-7 on three-point attempts while sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) connected on all four of her three-point attempts. Overdorff finished with 16 points and four assists.

As a team, Grove City shot 10-of-19 behind the three-point line. Grove City shot 16 of 31 (51.6 percent) from the floor in the second half.

Freshman guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) distributed six assists while sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) had four assists. McCoy had a game-high eight rebounds and also blocked five shots. As a team, the Wolverines blocked a dozen shots.

Each team had 35 rebounds. Jessica Henn led Manchester with 16 points while Stacey Wendel added 11.

The Wolverines will visit Carnegie Mellon Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
