CMU tops Grove City

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 2-5 Tuesday night with a 66-43 loss at Carnegie Mellon Tuesday night in Skibo Gymnasium.

Grove City trailed 31-21 at halftime but quickly pulled to within 31-25 in the first minute of the second half. However, the Wolverines would get no closer as CMU (2-4) broke the game open with a 9-2 run later in the period.

Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) led Grove City with 12 points and eight rebounds while senior guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) added 11 points and six rebounds. Grove City held a 45-44 edge on the glass but the Wolverines turned the ball over 27 times.

Grove City also shot just 11 of 48 (23 percent) from the floor for the game. Gemma Easterling led CMU with 15 points.

The Wolverines will visit Penn State Behrend Friday night at 8 p.m. in a semifinal in the 2005 Behrend Winter Classic.
