Wolverines open 2006 with loss
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 3-8 Tuesday night with a 64-56 loss to visiting Pitt-Greensburg in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Pitt-Greensburg (6-3) jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first half and led wire-to-wire. Grove City pulled to within five, 38-33, late in the first half but could get no closer.
Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) posted a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double for Grove City while sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) had 10 points. Freshman forward Jen Wiley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) added nine points and seven boards.
Tiffany Menhorn led Pitt-Greensburg with 16 points while Tish Hines had 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Grove City held the Bobcats to just 25 percent (8 of 32) shooting in the second half. Grove City shot just 21 of 60 (35 percent) for the game and committed 23 turnovers.
The Wolverines will visit Juniata Saturday at 2 p.m.
