Wolverines rally past La Roche

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) tossed in 13 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds while freshman forward Jennifer Wiley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) added a career-high 13 points Monday night, helping the Grove City College women's basketball team earn a 53-40 win over visiting La Roche at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City is now 4-9 while La Roche falls to 1-8. La Roche's 40 points are the fewest allowed by Grove City since a 65-31 win over Ursinus Nov. 21, 2003.

The Wolverines limited La Roche to just five field goals in the second half. For the game, La Roche shot 14 of 55 (25.5 percent). Grove City held La Roche without a field goal for the final 8:28 of the game.

However, Grove City had to battle back from a 29-25 deficit in the second half. Grove City eventually took the lead for good with 11:31 left on a pair of free throws from sophomore Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United).

Grove City out-rebounded La Roche, 45-31. McCoy tied a career high with six blocked shots. She also had five assists.

The Wolverines open Presidents' Athletic Conference action Wednesday night against visiting Westminster at 5:30 p.m.
