Defense lifts Grove City past Westminster
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 5-9 overall and 1-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wednesday night with a 51-42 home win over Westminster at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City held Westminster without a field goal for the first 13 minutes of Wednesday game. For the game Westminster shot just 13 of 48 (27 percent).
Junior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led Grove City with 16 points and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) added 10 points.
Grove City led 21-16 at halftime and extended the lead to 12 in the second half. Westminster pulled to within five, 41-36, with four minutes left. However, Grove City put the game away by draining seven of eight free throws down the stretch.
Sophomore forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added nine points and seven rebounds while senior guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) had five steals.
Desiree Sterling led Westminster with 22 points.
Grove City will host Waynesburg Saturday afternoon in PAC action at 1 p.m.
