Grove City tops Waynesburg, 57-48
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team won its third straight Saturday afternoon, earning a 57-48 win over Waynesburg in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Junior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) fired in a career-high 21 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds to lead the Wolverines (6-9, 2-0 PAC). Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) added 15 points and six boards.
Grove City led 30-27 at halftime but Waynesburg (8-8, 0-3 PAC) rallied to take a 40-38 lead with 11:31 left. However, Grove City countered with a 15-2 run. Bogusz sparked the run with a pair of three-pointers while McCoy closed the run with a pair of free throws.
Grove City forced 20 turnovers and held the Yellow Jackets to 37 percent (16 of 43) shooting from the floor. Waynesburg did out-rebound the Wolverines, 36-34.
Sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) had six assists for the Wolverines. Katie Lewandowski led Waynesburg with 17 points while Denise Kennedy had 14 points. Grove City has won 22 straight against Waynesburg.
Grove City will visit Thomas More Monday night in PAC action at 5:30 p.m. in Crestview Hills, Ky.
