Thomas More nips Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Visiting Thomas More used a 10-2 run over the final four minutes to pull out a 49-45 victory over host Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City (6-15, 2-6 PAC) led 43-39 with four minutes remaining but could not hold on for the upset victory. Thomas More's Brooke Warner drained back-to-back three-pointers to ignite the final spurt. Warner led the Saints (16-6, 8-1 PAC) with 13 points.

Grove City fell behind 8-0 in the first half. Grove City did not score until the 10:38 mark of the first half. The Wolverines eventually trimmed the deficit to 14-12 by halftime. Grove City held Thomas More to just 19 percent (5 of 26) shooting in the first half. However, the Wolverines made just three of 18 first-half attempts.

The Wolverines took their first lead of the game, 31-30, midway through the second half on a jumper by sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United). The lead eventually grew to 41-36 on a short jumper from sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local). McCoy led Grove City with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Senior guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) added 10 points for Grove City, including two three-point goals. Grove City out-rebounded the Saints, 35-32, and committed just 14 turnovers.

Grove City will visit Thiel Wednesday night in PAC action at 5:30.
