Wolverines earn 65-62 win at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team snapped its six-game losing streak Wednesday night with a come-from-behind 65-62 win over host Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.

Grove City (7-15, 3-6 PAC) took the lead for good with 17 seconds left on a tie-breaking three-pointer from senior guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United). Hess went 4-for-5 on three-pointers in the second half and finished with 12 points.

Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) posted a 19-point, 17-rebound double-double for Grove City. The 17 rebounds tie a career high for McCoy. It is also her fifth straight double-digit scoring effort and her sixth double-double this season.

Junior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) added 12 points for the Wolverines, including 10 in the first half. Freshman Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) dished out six assists. Grove City shot 9-for-16 (56 percent) behind the three-point line.

Amber Bodrick led Thiel (7-15, 5-4 PAC) with 22 points and nine rebounds.

Grove City jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead but Thiel pulled ahead, 34-27, in the closing seconds of the first half. However, Grove City sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) drained a three-pointer to beat the first-half buzzer, cutting Thiel's lead to 34-30 at halftime.

Grove City out-rebounded Thiel, 43-37. The Wolverines are 4-1 when scoring at least 60 points or more in a game this season.

The Wolverines will visit Waynesburg Saturday night in PAC action at 5:30 p.m.
