Wolverines fall to Goucher, 55-53

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team opened the 2006-07 Friday night with a 55-53 loss to Goucher in the semifinals of Frostburg State University's Jim Crawley Classic. The loss sent Grove City into Saturday's consolation game against Immaculata.

Junior forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) helped pace Grove City (0-1) with a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double. Junior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added 12 points and seven rebounds while senior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) also fired in 12 points.

Grove City owned a 43-33 edge on the glass. However, the Wolverines committed 36 turnovers. Sophomore point guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) handed out five assists.

Friday night's game was the first as head coach for first-year head coach Sarah Harris.
