Grove City falls in consolation game

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 0-2 Saturday afternoon with a 78-66 loss to Immaculata in the consolation game of the Frostburg State Jim Crawley Classic.

Four Grove City players scored in double figures, led by junior forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) with 14 points. McCoy earned All-Tournament honors after averaging 15 points per game in the two games.

Junior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting while sophomore Jen Wiley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and freshman Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) both contributed 10 points.

Grove City shot 30 of 59 (51 percent) from the floor for the game, including 15-for-24 accuracy in the second half. The Wolverines also out-rebounded Immaculata, 35-31. However, Grove City committed 19 turnovers.

Immaculata closed the first half with a 20-6 run and led 43-30 at the intermission. Grove City closed to within five, 50-45, with 13:29 left but Immaculata answered with eight straight points.

Junior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) distributed seven assists while Beechy grabbed seven rebounds.

Dominique Murray led Immaculata with 22 points and nine rebounds. Immaculata shot 51 percent (32 of 63) from the field.

Grove City will visit Mount Union Tuesday night in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
