Wolverines win PAC opener

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) fired in 17 points while senior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) added 15 points to help the Grove City College women's basketball team down Waynesburg, 57-44, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena. It is Grove City's second straight win.

The Wolverines led 22-12 at the half and extended the margin to 32-14 early in the second half. Waynesburg (3-5, 0-1 PAC) charged back, however, and tied the game at 36 with 8:26 left. Grove City grabbed the lead for good with an 11-1 run, which was sparked by a putback from sophomore forward Jennifer Wiley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park). Wiley also hit two free throws during the run while Bogusz hit one of her four three-point goals.

Grove City (2-6, 1-0 PAC) limited Waynesburg to just 16 of 58 (28 percent) shooting for the game from the field. Grove City also committed a season-low 15 turnovers. Overdorff added eight rebounds and four assists while sophomore guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) dished out five assists. Junior center Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) blocked four shots. Grove City shot 34.5 percent (20 of 58) from the floor.

Waynesburg out-rebounded Grove City, 47-41. Michaelene Jones led Waynesburg with a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double.

Grove City will host Allegheny Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in non-conference action.
