Allegheny tops Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Visiting Allegheny (8-1) opened the second half with a 13-0 run on its way to a 66-50 victory over Grove City in non-conference women's basketball action at the Grove City College Arena Wednesday evening.
Allegheny led 31-29 at the half but quickly extended the lead to 44-29. Grove City (2-7) eventually trimmed the lead to eight, 46-38, but could get no closer.
Junior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) led Grove City with 12 points while junior center Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) added 11 points and seven rebounds. The Wolverines shot just 8 for 30 (27 percent) from the floor in the second half. For the game, Grove City shot 33 percent (20 of 61). Allegheny shot 41.5 percent (27 of 65).
Jennifer Latronica led Allegheny with 14 points. The Gators out-rebounded Grove City, 46-41. It is Allegheny's seventh straight victory.
Grove City will return to action Dec. 30 at Point Park. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
