Wolverines edge La Roche
PITTSBURGH -- Juniors Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) and Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) each posted double-doubles Wednesday night, helping lift the Grove City College women's basketball team to a 53-48 victory over host La Roche in non-conference action.
McCoy recorded a season-high 20 points and also pulled in 10 rebounds. Anderson secured a career-high 18 rebounds and also tossed in 10 points. It is her first double-double of the season.
Grove City (3-8) owned a 59-29 edge on the glass. The Wolverines also limited La Roche to just 32 percent (21 of 66) shooting from the floor for the game.
Grove City jumped out to a 29-18 lead by halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half. La Roche (2-7) eventually whittled the lead to 48-44 with 4:37 left. La Roche then closed to within 50-48 with 1:11 left but a pair of Anderson free throws in the closing seconds helped seal the victory.
Freshman guard Pam Larson (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) made her first career start for Grove City and handed out a career-high four assists.
The Wolverines shot just 8 for 24 at the foul line in the win. Grove City committed just nine fouls in the game. Lyndi Miloszewski led the Redhawks with 16 points.
Grove City will visit Bethany Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at 4 p.m. The Wolverines are currently 1-0 in the PAC.
