Bethany slips past Wolverines, 61-55

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Host Bethany used a 6-0 run over the final 48 seconds to earn a 61-55 victory over visiting Grove City Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball action at Hummel Field House.

Grove City forged a 55-55 tie with 1:17 left as junior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) and junior center Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) each scored inside baskets. However, Bethany guard Lisa Mitchell bucketed an open layup with 48 seconds left to give the Bison the lead for good.

Mitchell led all scorers with 21 points. McCoy posted her second straight double-double, recording 14 points and 14 rebounds. She also blocked three shots. Senior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) added 10 points.

Grove City held Bethany to a 17-of-51 (33 percent) shooting performance from the floor. The Wolverines (3-9, 1-1 PAC) shot just 29 percent (20 of 68) from the field, though. Grove City did out-rebound the Bison, 48-43. Bethany (5-6, 2-0) held a decided advantage at the foul line, making 23 of 36 attempts. Grove City went 11 for 18 at the line.

Grove City freshman guard Pam Larson (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) had a game-high four assists. The game featured eight lead changes and 10 ties.

The Wolverines will face Thiel Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. in Greenville.
