Wolverines fall on road

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 1-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 61-56 loss to host Thiel Wednesday night in a PAC game at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia. Grove City led 54-51 with three minutes to go but Thiel (5-7, 1-2) closed the game with a 10-2 run.

Senior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led Grove City with 16 points while junior forwards Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) and Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) each had a dozen points. Junior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) added 10 points.

McCoy also grabbed 15 rebounds for her third straight double-double. She also blocked seven shots, tying the College's single-game record. Overdorff added four assists.

Grove City trailed 26-24 at the half but opened up the second half with a 9-0 run. Bogusz gave Grove City the lead with a three-pointer while Overdorff added a layup and a pair of free throws. Bogusz closed the run with a layup.

However, Thiel eventually erased the deficit and took the lead for good with 1:35 left on a pair of free throws from Amber Bodrick. Bodrick led all scorers with 23 points. Nicole Valentino added 17 points.

Grove City out-rebounded Thiel, 50-48. The Wolverines shot 34 percent (19 of 56) from the floor while Thiel went 22 for 71 (31 percent). Grove City had won three straight games in Greenville.

Grove City will host Saint Vincent Saturday at 1 p.m.
