Bruns hired as new women's basketball coach

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College has named Michelle Bruns as its sixth head women’s basketball coach. She will also hold the rank of assistant professor of physical education and exercise science at the College.

A 2005 graduate of Southwest Minnesota State University, Bruns comes to Grove City after working as an assistant master trainer/performance enhancement specialist at the Army Center for Enhanced Performance in West Point, N.Y. since January 2009.

Prior to her current position at West Point, Bruns spent three seasons as an assistant women’s basketball coach. She worked as a graduate assistant coach during the 2005-06 season at Eastern Washington University. Bruns then served as the head assistant women’s basketball coach at Adams State (Colo.) College during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.

At Adams State, she helped the squad triple its win total while also recording the program’s first winning record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference since 1992.

Bruns also worked as Adams State’s Senior Woman Administrator during the 2007-08 academic year. In addition, she supervised the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter.

A native of Hecla, S.D., Bruns scored 1,645 career points at Southwest Minnesota State. She earned Daktronics Division II All-America Honorable Mention as a senior, along with North Central Region Co-Player of the Year honors.

Bruns also earned the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s Player of the Year honor and SMSU’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award as a senior. She also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America distinction in 2005.

Bruns graduated from Southwest Minnesota State in 2005 with a bachelor of science degree in wellness and human performance. She completed her master of arts degree in human performance and physical education in December 2008 at Adams State.

Bruns replaces Sarah Harris, who stepped down at the end of the 2009-10 season after four years as head coach.
