W&J slips past Grove City, 63-51

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three Grove City players scored in double figures Wednesday night but the host Wolverines dropped a 63-51 decision to visiting Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball action at the Grove City College Arena.

Senior guard Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) fired in a game-high 16 points for Grove City while junior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Junior center Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) tossed in 10 points and also recorded six blocked shots.

Grove City (4-13, 1-5 PAC) led by as many as five in the first half, 27-22, but Washington & Jefferson forged a 27-all tie by halftime. In the second half, W&J limited Grove City to just 7-of-24 (29 percent) shooting in the second half. Meanwhile, the Presidents (12-6, 5-1 PAC) shot 50 percent (14 of 28). W&J also owned a 46-31 rebounding advantage.

For the game, Grove City shot 32 percent (18 of 56) from the floor while W&J made 24 of 58 attempts (41 percent). Kennan Killeen led W&J with 14 points while Lindsey Hyre added 12 points.

Grove City will open the second half of the PAC schedule Saturday night at Waynesburg at 5:30 p.m.
