McCoy scores 1,000th point but Wolverines fall
LATROBE, Pa. -- Grove City College junior center Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) became the ninth 1,000-point scorer in program history Saturday night but the visiting Wolverines dropped an 85-63 decision to host Saint Vincent at the Carey Center.
McCoy tossed in 12 points and now has 1,002 points in her career. Junior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) led Grove City (5-17) with 15 points while freshman swingman Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) added 13 points.
Saint Vincent shot 52 percent (26 of 50) from the floor during the game, including 10-of-18 accuracy on three-pointers. Laura Klimchock led the Bearcats (9-12) with 33 points while Janelle Reed fired in 24 points, including five three-pointers. Klimchock also went over the 1,000-point mark Saturday night.
Grove City trailed 41-33 at halftime and still trailed by just seven, 63-56, with eight minutes remaining. However, Saint Vincent pulled away for good with a 17-4 run.
Saint Vincent out-rebounded Grove City, 38-31. McCoy led Grove City with eight boards. She also had three blocks. Senior Sarah Bray (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) added nine points and a team-high four assists for Grove City.
Grove City will visit Washington & Jefferson Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.
